UK LAND FACILITY PROGRAMME TO SUPPORT FAIR LAND GOVERNANCE IN CHITAMBO

A UK aided Land Facility Programme from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office FCDO has held its initial engagement meeting with Local leadership and traditional leaders at Kings Harbour Lodge to highlight and share the vision of the program. The program is focused on discussing issues like food security, climate change, and sustainable development. further building partnerships, strengthening local institutions, involving communities, and aligning policies with international standards.

In his opening remarks, Council Chairperson Mr. Brian Mwelwa emphasized the need to include all community members, especially women and people with Disabilities, in the reform process. “Good cooperation is essential for everyone to live a better life,” he said. And his Chitambo District Commissioner Mr. Topson Kunda supported this idea, encouraging everyone to work together peacefully and reminding participants, “We are one people and one Zambia.”

Senior Chief Muchinda and Chief Muchinka supported the program and highlighted the importance of protecting the environment, noting that land governance reforms should not be influenced by politics. They welcomed the Officials in charge of the District’s Land Management and expressed hope for positive results.

The Land Facility Programme is a UK supported program, and Chitambo is the first bebeficiary in its initial phase. It focuses on teamwork, Inclusivity, and accountability in its efforts to improve land governance, aiming for sustainable development in Zambia.

The meeting was attended by Chief Muchinda, Chief Muchinka, a representative from Chief Kabamba, Council Chairperson Mr. Brian Mwelwa, Chitambo District Commissioner Mr. Topson Kunda, a Representative from the Zambia Institute of Planners, Women’s Land & Resource Rights, Chiefs Affairs, Land Facility, and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, along with Officers from the Local Authority.
