On 20th June, 2024, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) launched the Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) for Central Province in Kabwe, the provincial capital.
The launch was presided over by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Gary Nkombo. In his remarks, the Minister emphasized the importance of these IDPs in coordinating the development activities across the district, stating that the government’s desire is to ensure orderly development, rather than haphazard efforts.
The Minister urged the Local Authorities (LAs) to implement these IDP documents, as they represent the views and aspirations of the local communities. He cautioned the Ward Development Committees (WDCs) against engaging in political activities, reminding them that their role should remain neutral. However, the Minister assured the WDCs that the government is working on modalities to ensure their work is not compromised, particularly regarding allowances, as their role in implementing the IDP is crucial. The Minister also encouraged Members of Parliament in various constituencies to familiarize themselves with the IDP, as it provides them with a clear understanding of the needs and priorities of their constituents.
The launch of the Chitambo IDP marks a significant milestone, as it will now serve as the guiding document for all development activities in the Chitambo district.
The event was attended by several senior government officials, including the Central Province Permanent Secretary, Mr. Milner Mwanakampwe, the MLGRD Service Commissioner, Mr. Ackson Sejani, and the Chief of Party for the Local Impact-USAID program. The Chitambo District was represented by the Council Chairperson, Mr. Brian Mwelwa, the Acting District Commissioner, Mr. Paul Masuwa, the Acting Council Secretary, Mr. Brighton Kamanga, the District Agricultural Officer, Mr. Anderson Charles, and the Acting District Planning Officer, Kahembi Mulenga.
